Isaiah prophesized about the coming Messiah nearly a thousand years before Jesus came. He declared that a 'virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).' Matthew records this fulfillment in his gospel as Gabriel explains it to Joseph, 'She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. ' 'All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son, and they will call Him Immanuel'-which means, 'God with us.' (Matt. 1:21-23) God came in the flesh to save humanity, but first He had to make Himself known as the incarnated God-Man. This was accomplished primarily in two ways: fulfillment of prophecy and miracles. It is ironic that the two things that defined Jesus' deity in the first century are the most suspect in our own century. As we study these miracles in Matthew's account of Jesus, we will see that Jesus was Miraculously Defined by His miracles. 'Miraculously Defined' has a companion connection study guide. The daily study can be obtained by filling out the 'tear off' on your bulletin and taking it to the 'Connect With Others' Kiosk along with $3.00 to cover the cost of publishing.
